On 23 February 2021 (Tuesday) at around 9.40am, a chef died on the spot after a car crashed into the restaurant he was working at on Jalan Batu Sinar, Kampar.

The victim that was identified as 59-year-old Wong Kwai Yung, was cooking at a stall in front of the restaurant with another worker before being hit by an accelerated car.

The driver (who was also confirmed as physically handicapped) was trying to park his car in front of the restaurant to buy food when he accidentally stepped on the gas pedal. This resulted in the car ramming right into the cook’s stall according to Kampar district police chief Supt Hasron Nazri Hashim (Source:Bernama).

The driver and his 42-year-old female passenger were not injured. However, Wong sustained serious head injuries and succumbed at the scene itself. The other worker suffered lighter injuries on his shoulder and legs. There were also some customers eating at the restaurant when the accident occurred, however luckily no one else got hurt.

A post-mortem will be carried out on the victim’s body at Kampar Hospital. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and hope that the deceased will rest peacefully. Hopefully the disabled driver apologizes to the victim’s family and does not harbor guilt for many years.
