Despite the pandemic, 2020 has been an amazing year for K-pop. With new releases, comebacks, albums, and online concerts, some K-pop fandoms are busier than others (*hints* NCT) which also means K-pop has been generating more revenue.
Malaysia and K-pop has had a long history together, dating back more than a decade ago but what was once a secret genre that not many people knew has now become a multibillion-dollar industry. Last year alone (2020), 6.7 billion tweets were generated about K-pop and Malaysia ranked 7th out of 20 countries.

The 2019 record is pale in comparison with only 600 million tweets (That’s a HUGE difference). It’s safe to assume that due to the pandemic, fans are stuck at home and have more free time to spend watching and talking about their idols online.
The pandemic won’t be dying anytime soon so we can only expect the numbers to rise even more this year. (RIP Wallet).
