Hiker Dies After Falling into An 80 Meter Ravine

A 20-year-old woman had died after a freak hiking incident at Bukit Banang, Batu Pahat, Johor.

The victim was hiking with several others and had fell into an 80-meter ravine. The fall was witness by another group of hikers as a distress call about the incident was received at 11:34A.M.

 

Batu Pahat Fire and Rescue Department station chief Mohd Nor stated that one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and two Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicles with a total of 16 personnel were deployed to the scene.

The victim’s body was only pulled out of the ravine at 3:46P.M. and had been pronounced dead by a medical officer on the scene.

The body has been handed over to the police for further investigation.

 

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong had extended his condolences to the family of the victim as her parents had helped him back in Yong Peng since becoming the Member of Parliament of Ayer Hitam in 2004.
