The Star newspaper has been infamously gracing headlines recently, and now the local media company has gotten itself thrown into boiling hot water for posting FAKE NEWS!
Oh it gets even better (not for The Star though)...the fake news is about Keanu Reeves -- writing about an interview that NEVER HAPPENED... Aha kantoi!
“This interview did not happen. This was pieced together from several interviews and the majority of these questions were not asked nor answered. They are fabricated,” says Keanu Reeves' publicist, on an article titled 'Keanu Reeves says he is a lonely guy.'
On 28 May 2019, Star2.com published an article by US correspondent Philip Berk that sparked on the internet and attracted the wrath of Keanu's spokeswoman, who accused the local media company for being unethical with posting something that never took place.
Former Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Philip Berk
When Berk reportedly asked Reeves about what love means to him, the 54-year-old action star replied, “You mean romantic love? You know, I’m the lonely guy. I don’t have anyone in my life. But if it does occur, I would respect and love the other person; hopefully it’ll happen for me.”
Now here's where the drama comes in.
Keanu Reeves did in fact say those words BUT it was not in the interview conducted by Berk at the Four Seasons New York back in April 2019 -- which was held to promote Reeves latest film John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum.
John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum had dethroned Avengers: Endgame in the Box Office with an estimated $57 million in its opening weekend.
Passing off a 16-year-old quote as new and not disclosing its source is not considered ethical journalistic practice.
“Ethically and in order to be a responsible journalist, we have to always first attribute information from where it came from,” Lynn Walsh, ethics chair at the Society of Professional Journalists.
Eventually, Berk did clarify that the “lonely guy” comment wasn’t from the April interview.
Well as "unethical" as posting something that was sourced over a decade ago as "fresh news", the title of the interview article did indeed spark love interests for the veteran actor.
However, put on your brakes ladies cause Keanu does actually have a love interest -- and it's not a woman.
His love interest isn't in a guy either -- but instead, he shared his deep love for motorcycles!
Keanu Reeves is also the co-founder of his own motorcycle brand, 'Arch Motorcycle'.
Anyway John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum is already out in cinemas, so go watch it if you haven't yet!
